Sharing proud Black history and heritage with children, far beyond a slavery-only story. For foster carers and social workers

Black history does not start or end with enslavement. It begins thousands of years ago, in Africa, and runs through the Caribbean and Britain to the present day. In this course, you'll learn how to share that rich, proud history with the children in your care.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Why Roots Matter
• Module 2: African Kingdoms and Achievements
• Module 3: Caribbean Histories and Resistance
• Module 4: Black Britain: Romans to Windrush
• Module 5: Black History Every Day

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

• Explain why a slavery-only story of Black history can harm a child's identity
• Describe achievements of African civilisations, from Kush and Aksum to Mali and Asante
• Share Caribbean histories of resistance, and talk about enslavement honestly and at the right age
