For foster carers and social workers supporting Black and global majority children in care

A child can have a safe bed and a warm meal, and still feel like a guest. In this course, we'll explore what it takes for a child to feel they truly belong, in your family, their community and their own identity.

This interactive e-learning course has 6 short modules:

• Module 1: Belonging, Not Just a Placement
• Module 2: Identity, Culture and Belonging
• Module 3: Belonging to More Than One Family
• Module 4: Stability and Permanence
• Module 5: The WHOLE™ Framework
• Module 6: Everyday Belonging

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain the difference between a placement and belonging, and what felt security means
• Describe how identity and culture shape a child's sense of belonging
• Support a child to belong to their birth family and foster family at the same time
• Explain how stability and permanence build belonging over time
• Describe the eight domains of the WHOLE™ Identity, Culture and Belonging Framework
• Use everyday care, such as food, hair, names and traditions, to help a child belong
