For foster carers and social workers helping children in care know, feel and live their roots

Every child arrives in care with a story that started long before they met you: a family, a place, a language, a faith, a way of doing things. In this course, you'll learn how to help children in your care know, feel and live their roots, whatever your own heritage.

This interactive e-learning course has 6 short modules:

• Module 1: What Roots and Culture Mean
• Module 2: Why It Matters, and the Law
• Module 3: Finding Out a Child's Story
• Module 4: Living Culture Every Day
• Module 5: Many Heritages, Many Journeys
• Module 6: Caring Across Difference

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

• Explain what roots and culture mean for a child, beyond a label on a form
• Describe why heritage matters for identity, and the legal duties behind it
• Find out about a child's heritage safely, and handle gaps and painful truths
• Bring culture into everyday life, from food and hair to names and festivals
• Support mixed heritage, unaccompanied and teenage children exploring identity
• Care across difference with humility, and avoid tokenism
