Culturally matched care in practice – the e-learning companion to BFCA's documentary and training course

This course is the e-learning companion to our documentary of the same name, in which Black and global majority foster carers, and people with lived experience of care, share their stories in their own words. We'll listen to what they said, and turn it into everyday practice.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Setting the Frame
• Module 2: Meet the Carers
• Module 3: Unpacking What We Heard
• Module 4: Practice Workshop
• Module 5: Commitments and Going Further

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Describe the gap between the foster carer workforce and the children in care, and where your practice sits
• Apply insights from Black carers and care-experienced people to assessment, matching and support
• Identify a child's cultural, identity and belonging needs and respond practically
• Recognise bias and structural barriers in carer recruitment and assessment
• Apply culturally matched care to the everyday: hair, skin, food, faith, language and community
• Hold honest conversations about race, identity and cultural safety
