Advocacy, PEPs and working with the designated teacher, for foster carers and supervising social workers

When a child in your care faces racism at school, you are often the first adult they tell, and the person best placed to speak up for them. This course will help you do that calmly, confidently and effectively.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Racism at School and the Law
• Module 2: Who's Who: DT, Virtual School and PEP
• Module 3: Advocating for the Child
• Module 4: Suspensions and Exclusions
• Module 5: Wellbeing, Online Racism and the PEP

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain the Equality Act 2010 duties that schools have towards pupils
• Recognise the different forms racism can take at school
• Describe the roles of the designated teacher, Virtual School Head and PEP
• Record incidents and escalate concerns through the right routes
• Support a child through a suspension or exclusion and know their rights
• Support the child emotionally, including after racism online
