Course description

How trauma affects behaviour and learning, relational responses that de-escalate, and fairer consequences that reduce exclusion and isolation.

Who it's for: All school staff, primary and secondary: teachers, teaching assistants, pastoral, office and lunchtime staff, DSLs, designated teachers, SENCOs and leaders.

How it works: This is a reflective course, not a lecture. Each idea is introduced, you share your view, sense-check it, then see what good practice looks like so you can check your own thinking. Every idea comes with a primary and a secondary school scenario.

What's inside:

  • Behaviour as communication
  • Relational practice: connection before correction, and repair
  • Fair consequences and the voice of the child
  • Apply it: a branching scenario and a drag-and-drop activity
  • Your commitment and a five-question knowledge check

Part of the Schools: Safeguarding & Support bundle on BFCA Academy.
