For fostering staff and foster carers receiving, recording and learning from complaints about racism

Complaints about racism are some of the hardest to make, and some of the easiest to lose. They can come from children, foster carers, birth families or staff. In this course, you'll learn how to receive them well, record them honestly, investigate them fairly and learn from them.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Why Race Complaints Matter
• Module 2: Receiving Complaints and Advocacy
• Module 3: The Law: Complaints and Equality
• Module 4: Recording, Investigating, Learning
• Module 5: When the Complaint Is About a Carer

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain why complaints about racism often go unmade or unheard
• Receive a race complaint calmly and offer advocacy to children
• Describe the Children Act 1989 representations and complaints procedure
• Apply the Equality Act 2010, including protection from victimisation
• Record race complaints as race complaints, and learn from patterns
• Respond fairly when a complaint about racism is about a foster carer
