Course description

For foster carers, including carers with a faith, and the social workers who support them

Some of the children in our care are working out who they are, and who they love. Some of our carers are LGBTQ+ themselves. And many of us hold a faith that matters deeply. This course is about keeping the child at the centre, with warmth and without judgement.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Identity and Language
• Module 2: Faith, Culture and Acceptance
• Module 3: Coming Out and Gender Questioning
• Module 4: Staying Safe Online
• Module 5: LGBTQ+ Carers of Colour

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

• Understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ young people of colour in care
• Use clear, respectful language and follow the child's lead
• Hold your faith and culture alongside a child's need to feel safe and accepted
• Respond well when a child comes out or questions their gender
• Help LGBTQ+ young people stay safe online
• Recognise the experiences of LGBTQ+ carers of colour, including assessment and panel
