For social workers, foster carers and fostering staff

Every child, carer and family has strengths, even in the hardest times. In this course, you'll learn how to notice those strengths, name them and build on them, while still keeping children safe.

This interactive e-learning course has 6 short modules:

• Module 1: What Strength-Based Practice Is
• Module 2: Roots and Policy
• Module 3: Strength-Based Language
• Module 4: Cultural Strengths
• Module 5: Tools and Approaches
• Module 6: Putting It Into Practice

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain what strength-based practice is, and what it is not
• Describe its roots and how it fits current English policy
• Use strength-based language in records, reports and conversations
• Recognise cultural strengths and challenge deficit views of Black and global majority families
• Use practical tools such as strengths questions, eco-maps, scaling and PACE
• Apply the approach with children, carers, birth families and in supervision
