Fair, proportionate practice for supervising social workers, fostering team managers and foster carers

When someone raises a worry about the care a foster carer is giving, how it's handled matters. Done well, it protects children, supports carers and improves practice. Done badly, it can damage trust, break placements and lose good carers. This course is about doing it well.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Standards of Care or Allegation?
• Module 2: A Fair, Proportionate Process
• Module 3: Recognising Racial Bias
• Module 4: Supporting Carers and Children
• Module 5: Recording, Outcomes and Learning

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Tell a standards of care concern apart from an allegation that meets the LADO threshold
• Explain what the Fostering National Minimum Standards and Working Together expect
• Plan an enquiry that is fair, open and proportionate
• Recognise where racial and cultural bias can shape a concern, and check for it
• Support the foster carer, their household and the child throughout
• Record clearly, reach a fair outcome and turn the concern into learning
