For foster carers of Black and global majority children

As a foster carer, you know the child in your care better than almost anyone else in the room. But reviews, school meetings and panels can feel formal and daunting. In this course, you'll learn how each meeting works, how to prepare, and how to make sure the child's needs, identity and voice are heard.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Child in Care Reviews and the IRO
• Module 2: PEPs, Placement and Protection
• Module 3: Your Annual Review and Panel
• Module 4: Preparing and Speaking Up
• Module 5: When It Feels Hard, and After

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Describe the main meetings about a child in your care, and your part in each
• Explain what the IRO does and what the law says about child in care reviews
• Prepare for PEP meetings, placement planning meetings and child protection meetings
• Take part with confidence in your annual review and at fostering panel
• Raise a child's cultural and identity needs and bring their voice into the room
• Speak up when you feel unheard, bring a supporter, and follow up in writing
