What to expect, your rights and where to get support – for foster carers in England

Facing an allegation can be one of the hardest parts of fostering. In this course, we'll walk through what happens, what your rights are, and how to protect the children in your care, and yourself.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Allegations, Concerns and Complaints
• Module 2: What Happens After an Allegation
• Module 3: Your Rights and Support
• Module 4: Bias, Safer Caring and Records
• Module 5: Complaints and Your Wellbeing

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain the difference between an allegation, a standards of care concern and a complaint
• Understand why allegations happen and why they must be taken seriously
• Describe what happens step by step, including the LADO's role and possible outcomes
• Know your rights, including independent support and written guidance on payments
• Recognise how bias can affect allegations, and use safer caring and good records
• Make a complaint and look after your wellbeing during an investigation
