Keeping children safe online, calmly and without shame – for foster carers and supervising social workers

For many children, games and group chats are where friendships happen. In this course, you'll learn what children get from their online worlds, where the risks lie, and how to respond calmly, without shame, so children keep talking to you.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Why Gaming and Group Chats Matter
• Module 2: Online Gaming: Risks and Red Flags
• Module 3: Group Chats and Hidden Apps
• Module 4: Sextortion: What to Do
• Module 5: Safety Plans, Contact and Reporting

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Explain why gaming and group chats matter to children's friendships and identity
• Recognise grooming, gifting, spending and racist abuse risks in online games
• Understand group chat risks and respond to hidden apps and second phones without shaming
• Follow current UK advice if a child is a victim of sextortion
• Use age ratings, parental controls and a household online plan agreed with the child
• Know the reporting routes: platform, CEOP, police and Report Remove
