For foster carers and social workers supporting autistic, ADHD, dyslexic and other neurodivergent children

Many children in care think, learn, feel and experience the world differently. Some have a diagnosis. Many are still waiting, or have never been noticed at all. In this course, you'll learn how to understand these children, support them at home, and stand up for them with schools and health services.

This interactive e-learning course has 5 short modules:

• Module 1: Understanding Neurodiversity
• Module 2: Trauma or Neurodivergence?
• Module 3: Race, Culture and Diagnosis
• Module 4: Sensory Needs and Routines
• Module 5: Advocating: School, SEND and Health

It includes narration, practical scenarios and a final quiz of 12 questions (80% pass mark). You can learn at your own pace on any device, and you'll receive a certificate when you complete the course.

What will i learn?

• Describe autism, ADHD, dyslexia, FASD and related conditions
• Use respectful, neurodiversity-affirming language
• Explain why trauma and neurodivergence can look alike, and why specialists are needed
• Recognise how race and culture shape identification, diagnosis and family views
• Support sensory needs and build routines that help children feel safe
• Advocate with schools, SEND services, CAMHS and neurodevelopmental pathways
