Organizer

Based in Ewing, NJ

CWA Local 1032 is a progressive statewide public-sector union in New Jersey representing over 5,000 blue-collar, white-collar, professional, and supervisory workers in nearly 50 bargaining units. We are committed to building the union through organizing, representation, and political/community action.

CWA Local 1032 is seeking a candidate for a part-time temporary Organizer position that can lead to a permanent position; this is a hands-on position. Job duties include but not limited to: 

• Conduct broad and intensive outreach to non-union workers;
• Outreach to nonmembers in current units
• Map out worksites and floors
• Build one-on-one relationships with workers and establish trust;
• Identify and develop leaders to guide and lead in their campaign;
• Conduct individual and group meetings with workers to discuss and plan organizing campaigns;
• Motivate individual workers and groups of workers to take collective public action;
• Work to involve community allies in organizing campaigns;
• Engage workers in broader union efforts to bring pressure to bear on the industry as a whole.

The ideal candidate will bring previous experience in union organizing. A demonstrated commitment to social justice is required, along with the following:

• Capacity to work independently and with a team;
• The ability to make and follow through on a work plan;
• Effective and persuasive communications skills;
• Basic writing and computer skills;
• The ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds;
• Willingness to conduct house visits and site visits; This position requires long and irregular hours, including some evenings, and weekends.

Starting salary is commensurate with experience. 

No medical benefits will be provided with this part-time position but some sick, vacation, holidays and A/L days will be provided.

Local 1032 position is based in Ewing and requires reporting in person with extensive driving throughout the state. Valid driver’s license and car with insurance required.
