Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Helicopter Pilot/Flight Instructor to join our diverse team. The ideal candidate will not only have a strong background in aviation but also possess a passion for teaching. Your role will be multifaceted, working in various environments ranging from commercial aviation to bush pilot operation, sightseeing, and of course, flight instructing. Responsibilities

A helicopter pilot is responsible for operating a helicopter to transport passengers or crew, or to perform work such as forestry, tours, or point-to-point transportation operations. Specific duties of a helicopter pilot include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and preparing for flights, including reviewing NOTAMs, weather conditions, and flight plans.
  • Conducting pre-flight inspections of the helicopter to ensure it is safe and ready for flight.
  • Operating the helicopter according to Transport Canada regulations and Company and safety standards.
  • Monitoring the helicopter’s instruments and systems during flight to ensure proper operation.
  • Communicating with air traffic control and other pilots to coordinate flights and ensure safety.
  • Transporting passengers or crew safely and efficiently.
  • Performing aerial work such as survey, rescue, and construction operations.
  • Maintaining accurate records of flights, including flight plans and maintenance logs.
  • Participating in continuing education and training to maintain pilot certifications and stay current with industry developments.
  • Assisting the administrator to create quotes by providing them with accurate and detailed information about the flight from time to time.

A helicopter flight instructor is responsible for teaching students how to safely operate a helicopter and preparing them for a career as a professional pilot. Specific duties of a helicopter flight instructor include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and implementing a training plan that meets the needs and goals of each student.
  • Providing pre-flight briefings to students, including covering aircraft systems, flight planning, and emergency procedures.
  • Conducting and administering ground school and flight training sessions, including demonstrating procedures, and evaluating students’ knowledge, skills, and techniques to provide constructive feedback and guidance to students.
  • Monitoring students’ Ground School and Flight progress and adjusting the training plan as needed.
  • Ensuring that students are booking their flight times and rescheduling as needed to meet the requirements of the training program.
  • Maintaining accurate records of student progress and performance.
  • Ensuring that students meet the necessary Transport Canada requirements for solo flights, cross-country flights, exams, and other milestones in the training program.
  • Providing post-flight debriefings to students, including reviewing the flight and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Maintaining the safety and security of the training environment as per regulations and company policy.
  • Keeping up to date with industry developments and incorporating new techniques and technologies into training programs.

  • Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence
  • Transport Canada or ICAO Flight Instructor Rating
  • Transport Canada Class 1 Medical
  • Flight Instrument Rating
  • Radio Operator Licence
  • RH44 Rating
  • EC120 Rating

Experience

  • Flight Experience: A minimum of 1,000 total flight hours, including at least 700 hours as a helicopter pilot-in-command (PIC) and a minimum of 100 hours of instructional flight time.
  • Cross-Country Experience: At least 50 hours of cross-country flight experience as a helicopter pilot-in-command (PIC).
  • Night Flying Experience: A minimum of 10 hours of night flight experience, including at least 5 hours as a helicopter pilot-in-command (PIC).
  • Instrument Flight Experience: If the candidate possesses an Instrument Rating, a minimum of 25 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight time is required.
  • Ground Instruction Experience:  Possessing 7 to 10 years of proven expertise in delivering comprehensive ground instruction on subjects including aviation regulations, helicopter aerodynamics, flight planning, and meteorology.
  • Strong Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively convey complex concepts and instructions to students with varying levels of experience. Interpersonal

  • Problem Solving and Decision-Making Skills : The ability to identify potential issues, assess risk, and make sound decisions under pressure to ensure the safety of both the instructor and their students.
  • Organizational Skills: The ability to plan, schedule, and manage training sessions, including preparing lesson plans, coordinating with other instructors, and maintaining accurate student records.
